Cork Bike Week River Cycle Report 13th May

In the beginning
On a sunny, warm afternoon 5 cyclists assembled at the CircleK ranch to ascend to the heights of Cork airport, taking in numerous river sources (or as close to the source as we could). The first stop  was in St James’s cemetery where the source of Glasheen river now starts from. There then followed a set of steep inclines up Spur hill to alight at the source of the Two Pot river . E-bikes were useful here, but those with no battery bikes somehow managed to the top. These people were greeted with much whoops! Around the airport perimeter we went and the roads began to become narrow and busy – the worst combination. Now, we were right under the flight path and a Ryanair flight immediately appeared followed by a small training plane. The views over Cork were spectacular and at the speed we were cycling, we could easily appreciate them. We seemed on a plateau high above Cork. One last river source checked off and we headed for well deserved refreshments to cool down and replace the liquids/minerals. The trip finished by an exhilarating descent down the Kinsale road to the roundabout where we all separated in different directions.
